Mar 07, 2024     Hinge repair       Category: Empennage
I found that the left elevator was binding a tad on full up deflection. The cause was a slight bow in the leading edge tube of the elevator. I noticed that the gap between the trailing edge of the stabilizer and leading edge of the elevator was narrower at the root end hinge vs the outboard hinge. Unfortunately, that inboard hinge was drilled making too narrow a gap. I repaired it by filling out the holes in the hinge on the front edge of the hole so the hinge could move back. Then I made two washers out of 4130 and drilled them to the bolt size. The elevator was placed with the corrrct gap and then these washers or doublers were welded in place. Worked well, no binding.

Oct 31, 2023     Mounted empennage       Category: Empennage
Mounted the horizontal stabs, elevators and runner. Looking more like something that will fly.

Jun 22, 2023     Empenage in silver       Category: Empennage
Applied 3 cross coats of Polyspray to the empenage. The left elevator was done last fall. Per instructions, I'll either sand it or spray a light coat of reducer on it to reactivate the polyspray prior to paint.

Aug 26, 2021     Empennage support wires       Category: Empennage
Did a quick fitup of the empennage flying wires to assure all is well prior to covering. Fabricated tabs to mount them with.
